Foundation Unlimited supporting the Wayuu community

Over the centuries, they have developed their own language, Wayuunaiki, as well as a traditional conflict resolution system recognized by UNESCO and included on the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list since 2010.

Despite this exceptional heritage, the community now faces numerous challenges. Malnutrition, recurring droughts, and growing dependence on external food sources are weakening their traditional way of life and contributing to the gradual loss of food-related knowledge and practices. This situation is also accompanied by increasing health issues.

The goal is to create a shared space between the local ethno-educational center and the Wayuu community. This space is intended to become a true gathering place where children, young people, and adults can meet, pass on knowledge, and develop their culinary skills.

The facility will include areas dedicated to food preparation, storage, and consumption, as well as spaces for workshops and collective learning. More than just a kitchen, it will serve as a genuine center for the transmission of traditional knowledge.

What makes this project particularly unique is the involvement of the Wayuu community at every stage of its development. The construction process itself will become a learning opportunity for young people, allowing them to discover and practice their people’s traditional building techniques. This project is designed for the community and by the community.

Ultimately, more than 220 children and young people will benefit from a dedicated space where they can eat, learn, and share. Community members will also be able to strengthen their skills through workshops and activities that complement formal education and contribute to community development.
