In Morocco, a new boarding school expands educational opportunities for young girls

On September 15, 2026, the association Amis des Écoles inaugurated its two new boarding schools in Asni, in the El Haouz province. Foundation Unlimited, which contributed to financing the girls’ boarding school, was proud to stand alongside its partners for this important milestone. Rebuilt after the earthquake that struck the region in 2023, the facility will once again be able to welcome more than 250 girls from rural areas, providing them with an environment conducive to academic success and personal development.
A project promoting equal opportunities
“No child should be deprived of education because of distance, geographic isolation, or social hardship. Access to education is a fundamental right.”
Matthieu Jeandel, President of Foundation Unlimited
In the mountainous areas surrounding Asni, geographical isolation remains a major barrier to education, particularly for young girls. The first residents have already moved into the new boarding school and spent their first nights there. Located just a few minutes from their high school, the facility now eliminates a daily commute that could previously take up to an hour. Students also benefit from modern, comfortable accommodation specifically designed to encourage rest, study, and personal growth.
A long-standing partnership
This achievement builds on the long-term partnership between Foundation Unlimited and Amis des Écoles, an association that has been working since 2006 to improve access to education in Morocco’s most disadvantaged regions.
Over the years, numerous projects have been carried out, including classroom renovations, the construction of essential infrastructure, the development of libraries, and improvements to students’ living conditions.
The reconstruction of the Asni boarding school represents a new milestone in this shared commitment to education and equal opportunity.
An inauguration marked by strong collective support
The inauguration brought together the key stakeholders who contributed to the project’s success, including the Secretary General of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, the Director of the Regional Academy of Education and Training of the Marrakech-Safi region, representatives of Foundation Unlimited, including Olivier Sadran and Matthieu Jeandel, members of the Amis des Écoles association, and local authorities.
Several partners who supported the project were also present, including Karim Rahal, a long-standing partner of Newrest Morocco, and architect Meryem Benyahya, who designed the building by drawing inspiration from the traditional moucharabieh concept, combining local architectural identity, thermal comfort, and natural light.
The ceremony featured several highlights, including speeches from the different partners, the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, a guided tour of the new boarding school, and discussions over a cocktail reception prepared by the teams of Newrest Morocco.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discover the many drawings, messages, and letters of thanks created by the young residents for Olivier Sadran and all the partners who made the project possible. These heartfelt testimonials illustrated the importance of the boarding school for both the girls and their families.
A project focused on the future
In a region still affected by the consequences of the 2023 earthquake, this new boarding school represents far more than a building. It will provide hundreds of young girls with an environment that supports their education while showcasing the collective commitment of nonprofit organizations, public institutions, and private partners involved in rebuilding the region.
Through this initiative, Foundation Unlimited, the Newrest Group’s foundation dedicated to empowerment, development, and protection, continues its mission of supporting high-impact social projects and contributing concretely to the development of vulnerable communities.
